Position Summary:
As a Traffic Control Attendant you will be provided a truly unique and rewarding experience ensuring the safety of our children, parents, teachers, bus drivers, and community on all days school is in session.
Looking for dedicated individuals to ensure the safe passage of students, parents, and staff during school arrival and dismissal times. The role requires the ability to assess traffic patterns and exercise sound judgment in managing vehicle flow around the school premises with a minimum amount of wait time.
This is a part time position working split shifts from 7:00 am - 9:00 am and 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Essential Duties and Knowledge:
- Monitor traffic flow and identify congestion points around school premises.
- Assess traffic patterns to anticipate congestion and adjust traffic flow using appropriate signals and tools.
- Safely direct vehicular and bus traffic at designated school entrances and exits using hand signals, stop paddles, whistles, lighted wands, etc.
- Ensure strict compliance with school safety policies and traffic regulations.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and drivers to promote safe behaviors and resolve conflicts diplomatically.
- Collaborate with school staff and local authorities to implement emergency protocols swiftly and effectively.
- Make real-time decisions to optimize traffic flow during peak school hours, facilitating efficient entry and exit for buses, parents, and teachers.
- Manage the setup, positioning, and removal of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices as needed.
- Record license plate numbers of traffic control violators for further action by law enforcement if necessary.
- Maintain a courteous and respectful demeanor towards the traveling public and pedestrians at all times.
- Demonstrate punctuality and consistency in scheduled duty times and attendance.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students, parents and the general public.
Physical Requirements:
- Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
- Work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
