Start Date: 10/01/2024; Permanent Part Time No Benefits

12 month, 4 to 5 hours per day (20 to 25 hours per week)

 

Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist will support the district's public relations and communications efforts by working closely with district leadership, specifically assisting with various communication initiatives, social media management, website updates, and event support. This position is critical to maintaining effective communication with parents, students, staff, and the community. The Communications Specialist will collaborate with the district Public Information Officer to execute strategic communication plans.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in a K-12 public school setting or similar environment.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • Familiarity with Peachjar or similar digital flyer distribution platforms preferred but not required.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly visits to all 23 schools for photo-taking and content gathering.
  • Edit photos and create engaging social media posts and website stories.
  • Upload and schedule HCPS and partner flyers through Peachjar.
  • Manage approval of flyers and create digital flyers using Canva.
  • Maintain and update the promotional calendar for key dates.
  • Plan and create content for social media and website promotion.
  • Post articles and upload photos to the district website.
  • Keep website content current and engaging.
  • Manage district social media platforms and develop a content calendar.
  • Monitor social media accounts for consistency and compliance with guidelines.
  • Prepare documents and certificates for school board meetings.
  • Assist with the creation and review of board recognition materials.
  • Support key events by creating programs, press releases, and social media content.
  • Coordinate logistics and provide on-site event support.
  • Develop and distribute press releases and maintain media contacts.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Lightroom, InDesign, Premiere Pro) and Canva.
  • Basic photography skills and experience with photo editing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices for engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and protocols for social media and web content.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and requirements.
